NOMAND photography, print on fabric, 2023/24 The project "Nomads" explores the perceptions of people's roots and homes due to emigration. I have attended Georgia several times in 2023, a country that has become a center for Russian emigration. For some, it has become their new home, while for others, it is just a temporary refuge or a transit point on the way to a better life. Through conversations with people who have left Russia, I have noticed how attitudes towards certain fundamental concepts are changing. One such concept is self-identification. The Soviet era has shaped what is known as imperial consciousness, and when people from Soviet and post-Soviet backgrounds find themselves in a country with a strong sense of national identity, they often struggle to find a place in the new world.
